En Pleir Air (painted on location)
Her recent month-long journey through Italy and Spain was the first of hopefully many painting excursions. The work shown here is a collection of en Plein Air oil sketches (painted on location) from her journey, including in this show some of her most recent ‘en Plein Air’ works of the Caribbean, painted since her return from Europe.
A week in the Tuscan village of Montalcino painting with a group of artists proved to be the highlight of the trip. Maddine Insalaco and Joe Vinson, renowned painters and educators, directed a week-long painting session. The focus was, en Plein Air, “The Elements of Landscape,” revisiting a treatise by 18th century Neo-Classical French painter Pierre-Henri de Valenciennes (1750-1819). This treatise on open-air painting, “Elements of Perspective” published in 1800, “would prove an essential guide for the two succeeding generations of landscape painters.” This process proved to be very enlightening and will continue to be a great tool for her growth as an artist.
